A smallish market town located west of Loughborough in the county of Leicestershire, Ashby-de-la-Zouch has a population of just under 13,000 and a history going back to pre-Norman times, when it was an Anglo-Danish settlement, its historic castle dates from the 15th century, as does its Saint Helen's parish church. During the 19th century Ashby-de-la-Zouch was important for brick-making, coal mining and the manufacture of ribbon.
