Situated in the Emilia-Romana region of north-eastern Italy, Ravenna has a population of around 150,000, and is located just inland from the Adriatic Sea, though it is joined to the sea by a canal. Formerly a significant port, Ravenna was settled before the times of the Roman Empire, but prospered more under the Romans. Littered with historic monuments, Ravenna has no less than 8 World Heritage Sites.
Ravenna can be reached via the A14, the E45 and the SS16.
