The second largest town within the county of Warwickshire, Rugby has a population of over 61,000 and a history going back to the early Iron Age, when a settlement was first established there. A later Roman settlement was followed by an Anglo-Saxon village after the Romans left Britain.

Rugby has been a market town for many centuries, its first one being held in the 13th century. Rugby School was established in 1567, it later gave its name to the sport of rugby football. Rugby was a mostly tranquil little town until the arrival of the railway in the mid-nineteenth century, after which it became an important railway terminal.

Rugby can be accessed by way of the M1, the A5, the A426 or the A428, it is about 9 miles from Lutterworth, 20 miles from Warwick, 15 miles from Coventry, 34 miles from Birmingham, and a driving distance of 90 miles from London.
