An area of great natural beauty, it was named a National Park in 1954. The highest point is Dunkery Beacon which reaches a height of 1,703 feet.

The Exmoor National Park Centre is located in Dunster Steep, Dunster.

The Exmoor National Park faces the Bristol Channel with views across the sea to the Welsh coast. Exmoor can be accessed via the A39 (Minehead and Barnstaple), and the A396 (Tiverton and Dunster).
