Stroud History: A small town and parish in the county of Gloucestershire, Stroud has a population of around 12,000, and a long history as a cloth town. Lying on the western edge of the Cotswold Hills, Stroud is at the meeting point of the Five Valleys (Frome, Painswick, Nailsworth, Slad and Toadsmoor), and the water which reached the town via these valleys were used to power water mills for the production of cloth, since the Industrial Revolution.
