Rickmansworth mostly developed during the early decades of the 20th century, with the growth of the London Underground system and demand for homes outside central London. Its name however derives from Saxon times when it was known as Ryckmer, it was also mentioned in the Domesday Book (1089) as The Manor of Prichemaresworde, these days it is a busy commuter town and has a population of around 15,000.
Rickmansworth is on the London Underground system and is on the Metropolitan Line, linking it with Amersham and with London Baker Street (onwards to Aldgate).
Rickmansworth can be reached from the M25, the A404 and the A412, it has excellent road and rail links with central London. Rickmansworth is about 4.5 miles from Watford, 11 miles from Hemel Hempstead, 13 miles from St Albans, and a driving distance of 31 miles from central London.
