Tewkesbury History: Deriving its name from that of a local hermit called Theocalious who settled there in the 7th century, Tewkesbury was the site of a church and abbey prior to the invasion of Britain by the Normans. Later a significant market town, Tewkesbury was also important for flour milling.

Tewkesbury Abbey was consecrated in the 12th century. Tewkesbury today has a population of around 10,000, and lends its name to the Borough of Tewkesbury, one of the 7 boroughs of Gloucestershire.

Tewkesbury can be reached via the A46 and A38, it is also close to the M5 motorway (leave by junction 9), it is around 6 miles north of Gloucester and 87 miles from central London.
