Wakefield is a large town located beside the River Calder in West Yorkshire, it has a population of around 77,000 and a history which stretches back to Anglo-Saxon times. Named in the Domesday Book as Wachefeld, its name probably derives from the Old English wacu feld or "field where a wake is held". Wakefield grew, along with many other Yorkshire towns, around the textile industry during the Industrial Revolution.
Wakefield can be accessed via the M1 and A638, it is about 11 miles from Leeds, 34 miles from York and 185 miles driving distance from London.
