A large commuter belt town about 23 miles from central London, Woking has a population of over 60,000 and is within the county of Surrey. Named as Wochinges in the Domesday Book (1086), Woking was the site of a monastery during the 8th century.

Woking's Barnsbury Estate is a large housing estate which was started in 1936.

Woking can be reached by road via the A320 and the A380, it is close to the A3 and the M25 motorway, Guildford is 6.5 miles away and central London 32 miles.
