Penrith Cumbria: Lying just outside of the Lake District National Park, Penrith is still a good base for touring the Lake District as it has all the facilities you would need for a pleasant stay in the area. Penrith is a largish town (for the region) and has a population of about 14,700, it was formerly part of the historic county of Cumberland.
