A largish town located in south-west Leicestershire, Hinckley is close to the counties border with Warwickshire (just 5 miles from Nuneaton). Hinckley has a population of over 40,000 and a history stretching back to Saxon times, and it was already a well populated village at the time of the Domesday Book. A market town since the early 14th century, Hinckley later became wellknown for the production of stockings and hosiery. The St Mary's parish church in Hinckley dates from the 13th century.
